Klymaxx is an all-female R&B and funk band originating from Los Angeles, CA. The group’s members Bernadette Cooper, Lorena Shelby, Cheryl Cooley, Robbin Rider, Lynn Malsby, and Joyce Irby were musicians and vocalists combined creating an ensemble of monumental hits for women and adolescent girls. In 1984 their hit single and Album, ’Meeting in the Ladies Room’ earned the band national recognition and produced several singles topping the U.S. Billboard R&B Charts. The Pointer Sisters are an R&B music group comprised of sisters Ruth, Anita, and Bonnie from West Oakland, CA. They began singing in their childhood church and were encouraged to not sing “the devil’s music” due to their religious upbringing. However, their interests and pursuits of other genres of music, lead to an accomplished music career. The Pointer Sisters made 15 studio albums from 1973 to 1993 and received 3 Grammy’s, one for their song “Fairytale” for best Country vocal performance by a duo, group, or chorus, and received 3 American Music Awards.
High Inergy is an R&B disco and soul group from Pasadena, CA. Michelle Martin, Linda Howard, Barbara Mitchell, and Vernessa Mitchell were known for their great dancing and singing talents. They produced 7 albums between 1977 and 1983. High
Inergy disbanded in 1984 to pursue solo careers. Group member Vernessa had a successful career with gospel and r&b music and is currently an ordained evangelist working through her Higher Ground Ministries.
