This Fall, the constituents of our nation will be faced with the daunting decision of choosing the presidential candidates who will represent our country. After years of failed promises to the Black/African-American community, the Democratic Party is alleged to have turned to desperate measures to ensure voters are on their side. Decades of one-sided loyalty have forced the hands of a growing number of Black/African-American voters who are opting to vote Republican, and others are deciding not to exercise their right to vote this election cycle. The state of our nation and current political climate raises many questions, which, at minimum, I suggest taking a moment to consider.
Is opting out of the election the best option? Perhaps there are others whose cause aligns more with what you seek in a political candidate. Such as third party candidates representing the independent and green parties. Are you open to changing your political party preference? I do not think we should underestimate the power of our votes, and instead of sitting idly, being proactive in your desired outcome is likely to do more positively than not.
Don’t initiate a political debate during brunch, dampening the mood; but when you receive your sample ballots and informational materials in the mail, take a moment to review them. Dedicate some of your web time to researching policies, local candidates, and their positions. Your active engagement can make a difference. It is better to consider the options available and utilize the opportunity to enact them. Once the election is done, it is Done! All of the shoulda, coulda, and woulda will not matter.
NBC News appears to be doing a decent job of tracking the current political candidates. I have attached the link listing the current Presidential candidates, their running mates, political party, and brief background of the candidates. You can also visit candidates’ websites for more information. I intend to revisit this as we approach closer to the 2024 Presidential Election.
