Did y'all see the Usher concert during Super Bowl 58?! Usher's set and song line-up was too turnt!!! Judging by all the social media footage and posts a great majority of us were jammin' in our living room; all demographics were having a genuinely good time reminiscing on all the greatness he's given over the years. I enjoyed the performance and my biggest critique is that it wasn't long enough. Usher has a surfeit of great music within his discography and he was only able to give a little taste of the full meal. Usher did collab performances with Alicia Keys performing " My Boo", H.E.R. was an amazing cameo stroking the guitar strings skillfully for "U Got It Bad" segwaying into "Bad Girls". H.E.R. was the perfect transition into the second portion of the performance where Usher serenaded the audience with all of the A-Town classics with the assistance of A-Town legends; Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon, and Ludacris. The rapper/producer/ singer quadruple had the crowd swaying and the stage shaking. Usher's ability to dance, skate, and sing, is astounding; his breath control, virtuoso dance moves, and undeniable chart-topping catalog make him undoubtedly the New King of Pop! Usher continues his homage to the late King of Pop Michael Jackson with the signature white glove. Usher is arguably the King of R&B, but if we are being honest he is equally a Pop music artist and is more similar to Michael Jackson than Ron Isley or Luther Vandross; however capable of giving us both. Moving forward we should refer to Usher as the Current King of Pop, I think Michael would be honored to pass the torch onto a well-deserving and horizontally gifted artist such as Usher Raymond IV. His longevity, relevance, talent, and music idiosyncrasy have embraced the crown at music's front door. All Hail to the New King of Popular Music 👑.
On another note, the new King of Pop/R&B released a new album on Feb. 9, 2024. It has been in rotation all weekend along with a few other new R&B releases, and I already have my favorites. The entire album is a press play but my sister and I's favorite is "A-Town Girl ft. Latto", the song has a country music twang to it mixed with Usher's classic A-town style. Listen if you're an A-Town girl usher made this one for you; the song is catchy, cute, and fun, and details a boss Atlanta babe. Another favorite is "Ruin" not because I relate to the song personally but because the vibe is like R&B afro beats, has a delicate up-tempo, and the lyrics discuss how one particular lover ruined it for everyone else. If you share similar sentiments this may be the cut for you. "Stone Kold Freak" is a classic Usher track very reminiscent of former tracks, 'Pro Lover', 'Superstar', and 'My Way'. I like that Usher tried a little bit of everything with his latest Album 'Coming Home', he opens with the self-titled track 'Coming Home' ft. Burna Boy. The song has an afrobeat/Pop feel that is befitting to the concept of the title and being welcomed back home by a native of the African continent; Usher also gives us Country, Pop, Classic R&B, and EDM. 'Coming Home' is an overall fun piece of work. Start streaming because Usher will be in concert for his Past, Present, and Future tour in a city near you starting this August 2024.
