West Coast Wednesday: Ladies from the Coast

Music Artists: Ladies from the Golden Coast
Milania Monroe, Amindi, Tia P, Alex Isley

Milania Monroe, AKA "Queen of the Ink Pen," is a hip-hop artist born in Compton and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She prides herself on her writing and rhyming talent, hence the title. Milania released "Broken Hearts in LA Part 1," which is a hip-hop short film detailing a series of events commonly encountered while living in L.A. in 2021. Milania's singles "Anejo" and "Spicy" debuted in 2020. The visuals for "Spicy" are fun and playful and display a good time with the girls. Stream and support this L.A. Beauty with the talent and bars to match.

Amindi, a Jamaican American, Inglewood, CA native, and Alternative Funk and soul artist, should be in rotation on your playlist. Her father introduced her to music at a young age, and she enjoys storytelling with her music. Amindi's vocals put listeners in the minds of Jamila Woods or Lorine Chia. I like her newly released single, "Cult Classic" ft. Vayda. Check out the music video and her latest EP, "Take What You Need."

Tia P, another Inglewood, CA native, is a Rapper, Writer, and Howard University graduate. Her music is categorized as funk/hip hop, and she has been involved in music since her formative years. Tia P. currently has a banging single featuring DJ Battlecat and The Lady of Rage titled "Green Cadilac." What I love most about the single is Tia did what I suggested back in the West Coast Wednesday New Era edition (https://www.thenaturalwaytnw.com/post/design-a-stunning-blog), where I stated that the newer West Coast Hip Hop artist should tap into the sound of the greats in West Coast music to preserve and modernize the regional art form. Tia has the perfect combination of production, as DJ Battlecat is infamous for creating some of the best beats out of the West and collaboration featuring The Lady of Rage, a legend and pioneer in female West Coast hip hop. The trio made a good quality record with "Green Cadilac," it will be added to my 2024 West Coast Playlist. Add it to yours, too.

Alexandra "Alex" Isley is a New Jersey native, but because she resides in Los Angeles, made music for Ladera, and is the heir and legacy of R&B music royalty, an exception is made. If you think her last name rings a few bells, it's probably because Alex is the daughter of music legend Ernie Isley. Just like her name, the transfer of talent is undeniable. I had the pleasure of seeing Alex sing live back in March, and like her uncle Ron, Alex's voice is as smooth as butter on the mic. Her singing voice is soothing, and she makes it seem effortless. She definitely inherited the family genes. Alex's music is categorized as R&B/Soul, Afropop, and Alternative/Indie, and she has collaborative projects with Masego, Tank & The Bangas and has been nominated for two Grammys. In 2023, Alex and Terrace Martin released "I Left My Heart in Ladera." The LP features Robert Glasper and Paul Cornish and has a hit single, " 2 Step In The Living Room." Alex is an example of the nepotism we like to see. Go and see her in concert. Her live performance will not disappoint.
