Rhythm and Blues music is a staple for many music lovers. These West Coast artists use their art to keep the genre infused with great music for R&B listeners and lovers. Xavier Omar, Blxst, and Isaiah Jay are gracing streaming platforms with the fervent sounds of their diaphragm. Their artistic expressions range from music covers to collaborations and original hits that evolve and diversify the R&B music discography.
Xavier Omar (Monterey, CA)
Xavier was raised in a military family and moved frequently, causing him to leave behind his home base in Monterey, California. Although he now considers San Antonio, Texas, home, Xavier will always be a California native by default. Xavier first graced the R&B music scene in 2014 and has a current culmination of releases, including EPs, albums, and features. Xavier first came onto my radar in 2019 with the hit single 'Just Get Here' featuring VanJess & Wale, a constant in rotation. Another favorite from the 'Moments Spent Loving You' album is 'Deep End' featuring Sango. The single is a clever metaphoric and slight semantical play on the words "Deep End" and "Depend," displaying the depth of artistic creation with wordplay.
Blxst (Los Angeles, CA)
Mathew Dean Burdette, professionally known as Blxst (Blast), has showcased his singing, rapping, songwriting, and production capabilities in the music industry since 2014. Blxst has collaborated with other West Coast hit makers, Ty Dolla $ and Tyga, and released his debut album 'Before You Go' in April 2022. The album is a press play, and ironically, I was listening and vibing to his music before I realized I was a blind supporter until recently when it was brought to my attention. This speaks volumes to artists who can draw in supporters of their work without the presence of knowledge of their image and likeness. I am enjoying what I hear thus far and look forward to what more the future has in store.
Isaiah Jaay (SouthCentral Los Angeles)
Isaiah Jaay, the singer, songwriter, dancer, and hilarious social media personality, is vocally reigning from Gospel music royalty. The grandson of Joe Ligon, lead singer of Mighty Clouds of Joy, a very big deal in the gospel quartet music industry. Isaiah was brought to my attention on Twitter as his R&B covers were retweeted on my timeline, including his entertaining TV and social happenings timeline recaps. Isaiah's resume includes work with Stevie Wonder, Mila J, Ziggy Marley, Ginuwine, and Kanye West. He released his EP "B.E.R.E.T." in 2020. Isaiah's model, "From Being Overlooked to Overbooked," has manifested a booked and busy music career. For music and social media updates, @isaiah_Jaay is on IG, and @isaiahJaay1 is on TikTok.
