West Coast Wednesday: Sip & Listen, New Artist and New Music

Tequila Sunrise is the propound drink for this music-listening session. The ingredients are orange juice, tequila, grenadine, cocktail cherry, and an orange slice. A mocktail version is always recommended for non-alcoholic drinkers. The cocktail originates from Sausalito, CA, and is named after the drink visually resembling a sunrise. Let's sip and listen to new music by West Coast natives.

First up we have Sy'rai, born into RnB Royalty; the daughter of music megastars Brandy and producer Robert Smith is not coming to play games with her singing abilities. Birthed in Tarzana, CA the West Coast local is vocal about her undeniable talent in her single 'On My Own'. I say this respectfully, Sy'rai's voice is Brandy's perfected. Sy'rai has been paying attention in class. There's no doubting Brandy's influence and if you close your eyes and listen, you may mistake Sy'rai's voice for hers. However, Sy'rai is taking her lessons and making a name for herself with this one. 'On My Own is an authentic R&B track, a coming-of-age anthem, discussing her journey to take her time to find herself and she is doing so on her terms. The single is definitely a bop available on streaming platforms. I'll be tuning in to see what else Sy'rai will bless our ears with.

Terrace Martin is an artist of many hats; the performer, producer, singer, rapper, and musician is too talented, referring to him as multifaceted would be an understatement. Los Angeles is home and where is was raised under the mentorship of his father music legend Curly Martin who recently passed (R.I.P), Terrace is definitely doing his father's legacy justice with his latest project 'Fine Tune'. In the trailer, Martin describes the meaning behind the name of the album and the overall motivation for the project. 'Fine Tune' has been my go-to album for the last two weeks while I battle with California traffic. The entire album is calming and soothing to the soul and is an instrumental masterpiece with sounds of Jazz, bee-bop, and a hint of gospel. On the 12-track album, you'll hear, the horns, piano, organ, and vocals by some of your R&B faves such as Alex Isley on 'La Brea & Stocker', a personal favorite.

Close your eyes and picture this, it's a beautiful day in LA, the Sun is shining but it's not too hot with a perfect breeze in the air, the top is down or the sunroof is open and the windows lowered, you're cruising along the scenic view down La Brea with 'La Brea and Stocker' blasting. This vibe is priceless and the essence of a perfect day in LA. 'Fine Tune' is certainly a press play, there are so many great tracks. Terrace does a cover for Sza's "Snooze" and I must state that it was beautifully done along with the cover to H.E.R.'s "Damage". 'Afraid' featuring Malaya and 'Sweeter' featuring Cory Henry are great songs and get replay action; this album was perfectly done. If you want calming, sensual, beautiful melodies on your playlist download and stream 'Fine Tune' . 10/10 recommend.

'I Love Stocker' is a Dom Kennedy and Tefefli joint album. The pair give a summer single with 'Lay You Down' and on singles 'Pleasures' and 'Horoscopes' both artists serenade lady listeners with their romantic sentiments. This project was reminiscent of my E.P.S photo days, waiting at the bus stop in front of the liquor bank, getting to school early to stop for breakfast at Jack 'n' the Box, or walking to the Crenshaw mall after school (good times) back when life was much simpler. I wish we could have gotten a few more tracks from the two artists, but that just means we'll have to stay tuned for their next projects. In the meantime flood your speakers and headsets with the album.
