Westcoast Wednesday: Hip Hop History & Highlights

West Coast Hip Hop and Rap have made their mark in music history. One of the early pioneers of west coast hip-hop proceedings the group N.W.A was MC Trouble.

Born July 30, 1970, in Los Angeles, Latasha Sheron Rogers AKA MC Trouble was the first female rap artist to be signed to Motown records. MC Trouble was revered for her skilled and charismatic rap flow, displayed in her hit single (I Wanna) Make You Mine. MC Trouble addressed political, and social, issues and challenged the influences of gangsta rap in the black community with clever and radical lyricism in Gotta Get a Grip released in 1990, and Big Ol' Jazz was featured on the 1991 House Party 2 soundtrack. In 1988 she released Highroller's Girl giving consumers a taste of her fly LA girl flava. MC Trouble was a talented singer and dancer but pursued rapping after encouragement from a local DJ. MC Trouble's passing on June 4, 1991, concluded her physical presence in West Coast rap, however; it did not erase her historical and cultural contribution. Her passing inspired the musical tribute " It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday" by Boyz II Men on their album To Whom It May Concern.
